Moon Lake Campus

Nestled just off Alabama Highway 117 behind the Moon Lake Library, Moon Lake Campus is a vibrant hub for culture, learning, and community. Once the town’s beloved Moon Lake Elementary School, the property has been reimagined as a gathering place where creativity and connection thrive.
For more than a century, Moon Lake School served as the heart of Mentone, opening its original doors in 1911 and shaping generations of students.

When the school closed in 2021, the Town of Mentone stepped in to acquire the property, determined to preserve its legacy while giving it new life.
Today, the campus is home to shops, art galleries, offices, and a popular restaurant. The Shigley Amphitheater hosts concerts and outdoor events, while the Little River Arts Council brings the community together with First Friday Art Nights and the annual Mentone Fall Festival. Public art installations, including a striking white oak leaf motif, honor both the campus’s natural surroundings and its long-standing role as a place of inspiration.

Thanks to the vision of Northeast Alabama Community College, classrooms are once again alive with traditional and non-credit courses, restoring the educational spirit that defined the property for decades. Future improvements, supported by local partners and regional grants, will continue to enhance the experience for residents and visitors alike.he school and the library.
